Best Protein Powder

Gelatin (aka collagen) is your best protein powder (in my opinion), and it’s also your anti-inflammatory.

I frequently get asked what protein drinks or protein shakes I use, so I decided to write about it. Not only do I believe that gelatin is your best protein powder source but it’s also an incredible anti-inflammatory. This is one things I believe everyone should be consuming daily.

WHAT IS GELATIN (aka collagen)?
Gelatin is the protein substance formed from the connect tissue of an animal. Animal protein is the building block to our thyroid, supports our immune system, and helps build lean muscle mass. If you are a vegetarian, there is a fish gelatin available.


BENEFITS OF GELATIN

  1. Excellent source of protein (6 grams of protein in 1 TBS)
  2. Helps reduce inflammation
  3. Speeds healing
  4. Helps the effects of aging
  5. It can lower pain caused by an injury
  6. It can help regenerate nerves, tissues, and cells
  7. It can help heal and prevent a wealth of health problems (e.g., digestive diseases, arthritis, diabetes, tumors, etc.)
  8. Increases hair and nail health and growth. My hair has never been so healthy or long. My hair wouldn’t grow past a certain point until I started using gelatin. It also helps your eyebrows grow, it’s helped mine.

 

SIGNS OF INFLAMMATION

  1. Puffiness
  2. Water Retention
  3. Weight Gain
  4. Poor Skin Color
  5. Fatigue
  6. Insomnia


DOSAGE

Per Ray Peat, PhD, and Nutrition Expert and Life Coach Tracie Fountain, we should consume 2-6 TBS of gelatin a day. Personally, I consume 4-6TBS a day in my smoothie or with 6oz of orange juice. You can break it up (2TBS in the morning and 2TBS later on) or have it all at once. It dissolves and doesn’t taste like anything.


MIX GELATIN INTO

  1. Smoothies
  2. Apple Sauce
  3. Fruit Juices (shake up and let sit in the refrigerate for an hour)
  4. Soups
  5. Chili
  6. Coffee
  7. Tea

Here’s a clip of how I store my gelatin and use it in my juice.

I use Custom Collagen’s hydrolyzed gelatin. It can be mixed with any hot or cold liquid or soft food, and will completely dissolve.
